One #bcpoli leadership candidate ( @georgeabbott4bc ) has spoken up on child poverty
I’m a day late with this, but given my rant from Thursday about the lack of any mention about child welfare in any leadership candidate’s policy platform (Liberal OR NDP), I wanted to set the record straight.
George Abbott came out with a statement specifically on that issue, prompted partly in response to release of the Child Representative’s report on January 27th, but partly to clarify that this is a policy issue him and his team have had under consideration. Certainly as a former Minister of Aboriginal Relations AND Minister of Community, Aboriginal and Womens Services, he would have read a briefing note or two on the issues, and actually met with groups working directly with children.
For the record, here is his Press release on the matter, dated January 28th, 2011.

It is good to see that it is on at least one leadership hopeful’s radar, and hopefully will prompt more to give the issue serious thought.
