Deja vu! ... or haven't we seen this standoff...
I haven’t had a good rant about things politic here for a while, so I guess its high time! I’ve been standing by with a partial lean-in of the ear while the lastest public sector bargaining debacle unfolds … or that epic battle the Teachers vs. the Government.
Albeit, the media has dubbed it the Teachers vs the Liberal Party (yes, the whole darn party seems tarnished on this...

Much ado about cleavage: Premier's attire inflames... →
Sad but interesting that a woman’s attire still provokes this kind of reaction. David Schreck has been known to go off on rants in his pre and post-caucus days, but I still find it hard to believe that a tasteful navy blue dress with a modest v-neck was such a trigger for him! (insert tasteless joke about infant feeding patterns here). Too bad the leader of the NDP hasn’t made a...

Overheard today ...
In the health food store, a mom and her (I’m guessing) 3 year old.
Daughter … comments on the salad, and says she has those at daycare.
Mom … nods.
Daughter … comments on some of the fresh fruit.
Mom … nods.
Mom … says its time to pick out a treat … AN ONION!
Daughter … “But I don’t like onions!”

Here we go again! Another Job creation plan!... →
Another slump in the economic cycle, and like clockwork, another job creation plan gets rolled out! Its too bad, really that more attention isn’t paid to this kind of stuff on an ongoing basis — might make the jobs we have in our province a little more strategic, and therefore more sustainable in the long-run!
More often than not, goverment job creation “plans” tend to be...

via Jonathan Goldstein’s WireTap, the most awesome interview ever with Cookie, the self-declared inspiration behind The Jersey Shore, and the real deal (“she effing stole my pouf!”). check this out:
- has had a pouf since she was 11
- carries a knife at all times (dad says don’t leave the house without your “cookie cutter”)
- parties AND fights
- comes up...

Teachers file 72-hour strike notice. This won't...
Let’s see, school starts in less than a week, the coffers are dry, and will be strained further in the wake of the HST being voted down, both sides already talking about standing firm on their positions… I don’t see this ending in any other way than a heated, partisan, political battle of the mud-slinging variety, with the kids in the middle.

via the Hill Times … http://www.hilltimes.com/dailyupdate/view/208
It seems the recently release FOI info requests around the G8/G20 capital spending projects don’t necessarily jibe with what those on the Hill told the Auditor General!!!
It appears as though Mr. Clement himself, chaired a committee in the Muskoka region (i.e. his riding!) focussed on the projects and preparations for...

Federal government annouces Shared Services model... →
Coming a little late to the game (its been at least 6 years since Gordon Campbell was wandering the halls with Shared Services publications tucked under his arm!), and its been at least a decade since Australia went down this path.

Stats Canada to stop tracking marriage and divorce... →
I saw this a few days ago, and my initial reaction was … interesting that this cut is taking place at the same time as gay marriage is now becoming a routine part of how we view marriage in Canada …
I suspect its just another in a series of cuts to StatsCan’s budget — the argument being that family definitions are just too darn hard to keep track of. There is, however, a...

For the record, this was my chief reason for not voting for Ms. Clark for Liberal leader — lack of depth.
We are now firmly entrenched in an era of fed-prov political machinations like we have never seen before. Organizations like Council of the Federation are at the fore of the public policy development process (an arena where, like him or not, Mr. Campell was proactive in carving out a...

I wonder whether Peggy Orenstein has written anything on this phenomenon?

“A purity ball (also known as a father-daughter purity ball or purity wedding) is a formal ball dance event attended by fathers and their daughters. Purity balls promote virginity until marriage for teenage girls, and are often closely associated with Evangelical Christian churches in the United…

Canada Post back-to-work bill could face vote soon... →
A sad week for labour relations and collective bargaining in Canada indeed. While I understand that people are irked and inconvenienced with not getting their mail, the arbitrator’s ruling and this back to work legislation set Canada down a path of serious erosion of workers rights.

Suggests to me like a good-enough offer was not forthcoming from the BC business community … justsayin!
Puts me in mind of the remittence men of days gone by … only in reverse! You know, those rakes that had burned all their bridges in the UK who got sent (with a tidy allowance!) to the colonies to make good, or at minimum stay well away from the respectable family members
